Agreement on allotment US $ 50 mln loan to the health sector reform project was signed October 9 between the World Bank and the government of Azerbaijan in ‘Excelsior hotel’. Oktay Shiraliyev, Azerbaijani Health Minister and WB manager for Azerbaijan Gregory T. Jedrzejczak signed the document.

6th congress of pediatrics of the Turkish World commenced October 6 at the Azerbaijan Medical University. The event attended by representatives of the United States, Uzbekistan, Germany, Kirghizstan and other countries was organized by the Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Health and Union of National Pediatric Societies of Turkish Republics.

The 6th congress of CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States) oncologists and radiologists wrapped up October 1 in Baku. The congress was initiated by the Azerbaijan National Oncology Center headed by academician of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences and Russia Academy of Medical Sciences Jamil Aliyev.

The Vishnevskaya-Rostropovich Foundation was founded in 1991 by Maestro Rostropovich and his wife, the acclaimed soprano, Galina Vishnevskaya, to improve the health care of children. Currently, the Foundation is conducting children’s vaccination program in the Russian Federation, Azerbaijan and Georgia. The Vishnevskaya-Rostropovich Foundation representative office in Azerbaijan was officially registered on July 30, 2003.

Azerbaijani Ministry of Health task force examined the medical activities of Health and Beauty Center LLC (Vital Clinic) with participation of a representative of the Ministry of Economic Development.
As APA reports, the examination showed that organizing activities if the clinic is unsatisfactory, accounting documents are not proper and recruitment doesn't correspond the Cabinet Ministers' decision 177 made in November 07, 2001. The clinic had only authorized to provide ambulatory treatment, it also provided plasmapheresis and surgery operation.

The committee organized by the Ministry of Health Ministry with participation of Economic Development Ministry examined Private Medical Center MMC medical activity.
As APA reports, not organization of methodic works in Medservice, personnel selection, not being appropriate the experience of the specialists to demands and other defects have been found. Besides it, waste material of the enterprise (hemodializ, laboratory) was found to be thrown without being rendering harmless.

Delegates from the 52 European Member States of WHO will meet this year in Copenhagen, from 11 to 14 September, to discuss the European strategy on noncommunicable diseases; the proposed programme budget 2008-2009 and the medium-term strategic plan for 2008-2013; the future of the WHO Regional Office for Europe; and health security. The Committee will be presented with a full report on the work of WHO in the European Region during 2004-2005.

The workshop “Azerbaijani Advances in Development Communication” commenced June 27 at the Park Inn Hotel. The event is organized by the International Medical Corps and USAID START Participant Training Program. The workshop is conduced by experts from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health/Center for Communication Programs.
