The Vishnevskaya-Rostropovich Foundation was founded in 1991 by Maestro Rostropovich and his wife, the acclaimed soprano, Galina Vishnevskaya, to improve the health care of children.
Currently, the Foundation is conducting children’s vaccination program in the Russian Federation, Azerbaijan and Georgia.
The Vishnevskaya-Rostropovich Foundation representative office in Azerbaijan was officially registered on July 30, 2003.
On the 1st of October of 2003, donation agreement for the implementation of a measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccination program in Baku was signed between the Ministry of Health and Vishnevskaya-Rostropovich Foundation. According to the agreement, the Ministry of Health decreed that on the 1st of December 2003 measles vaccination in the national immunization calendar between 1 and 6 years old children would be changed to the measles, mumps and rubella trivalent combined vaccination. Till the present, during the program Foundation supplied 320 refrigerators, 370 generators, 395 voltage regulators and 336 vaccine carriers to vaccine providing health care facilities throughout the country. Foundation also provided the Innovation and Supply Centre of the Ministry of Health with the refrigerated truck and Central Vaccine Storage with the technical support. For the implementation of MMR vaccination program Vishnevskaya-Rostropovich Foundation has provided the Ministry of Health with the 600.000 doses of World Health Organization qualified vaccines and auto-disposable syringes produced in Holland, Belgian and United States. During the program more than a half million children have been vaccinated against measles, mumps and rubella. In February 27 Foundation has been one of the organizers of the National Immunization campaign against measles and rubella which involved 3 million people. During the Foundation activities 5 million USD have been spent for programmes’ implementation. At the present new contract between Vishnevskaya-Rostropovich Foundation and Ministry of Health for the implementation of the vaccination program against measles, mumps and rubella for the 2006-2007 is under process.
